It’s my third trip to Argentina in the last five years. It’s amazing how much the country has worsened since then.
The first trip I spent 15 days in Buenos Aires, everything was cheap, things were cool, the city a little cleaner, I heard no news of any assault, the weather was better. The second time the city was dirtier and abandoned, several friends and acquaintances reported me assaults, a friend of mine was directly assaulted 20 minutes before I met her, bus crowds were very crowded, protests and protests, strikes, strikes and more strikes, Because Buenos Aires is the political epicenter.
Now I am in Cordoba, I think second largest city in Argentina, with more than 1.2 million inhabitants, many old cars, many even, until Fiat 147 I saw here, the people too ragged, chaotic traffic, dirty city, I saw A classic street fight, a lot of horn, had a shootout early in the morning, people’s faces are not happy at all, I did not see a smile from an Argentinean here on this trip, even the woman who in Buenos Aires had some beautiful ones here in Cordoba there is not. In short, it is sad to see a country that was so prosperous succumb to decades of political and social outcasts.
The dollar here is very, very expensive 1 peso = 15 dollars, practically unfeasible trip or the dream of any Argentinean emigrate, they impoverished too much (in dollars) and thus they are more imprisoned to the country. It makes me wonder how important it is to accumulate equity in dollars since always, these other third world currencies are very volatile, no one trusts them, the governments of these countries are irresponsible and print money how much they want and when they want to support their Criminal projects of power, the way Kristina did, impoverished millions and took away the hope of a better life for much of the population.
The other times I travel I have the initiative to go out, eat in the street, talk to people, take photos of the city, etc … here this will passed completely, the rainy and gloomy weather, the shots, the old cars, the dirt, everything This discouraged me, it’s a lot of decay. I also could have stayed in a better Hotel or a better Hostel, but I got myself positive ratings from a Hostel and thought it would be good, it’s not. Actually, I think of 30 hostels that I’ve stayed in, I’ve never been in such a bad, old, falling apart, with no maintenance, with bad breakfast and a crowd, very, very strange.
Hostel staff is strange by nature, which includes me) but this time neither I nor I felt so at ease. I denied two invitations to go out at night, I slept a lot, I stayed in the room in the afternoon and at night, and I can not wait to come back soon. Maybe it was worth going to a better hotel, but there you can not meet anyone or talk, which I find bad to stay in a hotel.
In hostel at least you can talk and make friends, but this is really difficult. What the hostel does sometimes is the group that is in it and you can integrate, otherwise, it is very suffering. In life, we have to take risks, and in spite of the fact that I got along 90% of the time, this time it was a little unproductive, it happens.
It’s also amazing how much you think about life when you get out of your rut. The simple act of staying in a downtown cafe watching people go by is an interesting experience. I see all the workers hurrying, looking tired, wearing old clothes, old coats, hair to be cut, beards to be made, well-paid people, even though they will stay there for life and without leaving the place, this eternal bondage to the Governments and debts, the slavery of the Matrix …
Before the banks open here already there are huge queues outside, huge to go around the block. I’m in the financial center, with 10 types of banks, financial, foreign exchange and everything else, and here the financial sector people all the time, from social clothes, social shoes, watches, leather bags, are interesting and It’s funny the way the staff is, it’s always the same thing here, in SP, Rio or Chicago.
Everyone I asked thinks it’s still early to see if Macri is good or bad, but they say he did not do much, in fact, I think people expect too much from the government, I think that’s a mistake, a president will hardly improve directly. His life, whoever he is, and they have limited powers as well. The lunch here is very strange, you ask for a meat and they come to the same meat, and only. Then you have to order an extra salad. Damn how Argentinean likes a horn he saw! They hustle for everything all the time, and they are extremely impatient in traffic, seriously, this is a lot worse than Brazil. At least I did the test that I came here to do and the result takes about six weeks, so I’ll have nothing to study. I have 6 books in line to start reading and 5 books in a row to finish reading.
The electric power here is a state, and as such, THERE IS ALREADY LIGHT 3x THIS LATE! It is AWESOME as hardly anything state lends. How is this possible? The internet also oscillates very much the speed of connection, in fact, you can not expect anything like this, and the hot bath walks along with the electricity. At least I will not die of heat if I do not sleep in the air-conditioner nor fan since the temperature is at 25 degrees.
Meanwhile, in Brazil bovespa is booming and approaching 62,000 points, my portfolio almost everything in the blue, impressive BBAS here, as well as BM & F and M.Dias Branco, with impressive highs, as well as São Carlos, Hering, Itaú, and Equatorial. By the way, if Itaú even bought the City Bank it will also enter here in Argentina because it has City Bank here, then Itaú that already has the largest Chilean and one of the largest in Colombia will also enter here in Argentina, walking to become a South American bank And with one foot in the USA thanks to Citibank. At such times you feel good about being clogged with stocks, but in bad times you find it bad not to have bought RF.
Stock gains are really impressive, seeing your portfolio go up by 10 thousand reais a day (or fall) is crazy, and you have to realize that this does not mean a lot, it’s just numbers, the companies are the same in fact. The market is totally bipolar, they were selling Banco do Brasil at 14 reais not even a year ago and today it’s at 26 reais.
I hope I do not have to come back here anytime soon.
