Atlas Shrugged is a fictional book by author and philosopher Ayn Rand published in 1957. Launched in Brazil as Who Is John Galt? In 1987, relaunched in 2010 as The Atlas Revolt.
It is not an investment book, but it has much to add in its moral and spiritual formation.
From a very young age, I always enjoyed reading a lot. In school despite being a public library had a reasonable with hundreds of titles to borrow and I kept catching one after another, as soon as I finished reading already changed for another and continued, I already started reading on the bus because the trip lasted longer Of an hour to my house, this began more or less in my fifth grade of elementary school and lasted even in the third year of high school, where even studying hard for the college entrance examination I was able to read 17 books of other subjects unrelated to the entrance exam, National literature books that were required to take the test. The fact is I have always enjoyed Science, Philosophy, Literature, Science Fiction, Adventure, Biology, and Drama.
Well, many books pass in our lives, some mark others, not others you vaguely remember reading, books are like people, some leave memories, some add knowledge, prepare you better for life, to better understand the world and the Relationships between various subjects and life and nature.
It happened that in 2015 I read a book so good, so phenomenal, so strong, so powerful that I thought it worth mentioning and explaining a little of what I understood, I also think if you read it, it can bring a very good impact In your life, will help you in your personal life permanently and will shape your thinking and even your character a little, it can also give you a strength that you did not know you had and make it better to see things.
Rest assured that it is not a self-help book (which despite all the criticisms some have their merit). This book I tried very hard to find a PDF to download but I did not find it in Portuguese, in English nor did I try because the book has 1500 pages and my English until you can read any book but not this one because it is much denser.
The book is called “The Atlas Revolt” by Russian author Ayn Rand. I bought it from the internet on the publisher’s Facebook page. The book had already been released in Brazil in the 80’s with the title “Who is John Galt?” And seems to have gone unnoticed by the public and criticism in Brazil, also who gave, the Brazilian is a very ignorant people.
For you to have an idea, “The Atlas Revolt” was the second most influential book in the United States behind only the Holy Bible, according to the Library of Congress. He shaped the character of an entire nation and also of Western culture.
Of course, if you google search will find a lot about her and him, but here I will comment the book and not describe it.
The author Ayn Rand was a woman ahead of her time, lived in the time of the Russian Revolution (1917) when she was still young and finished the history faculty in 1924 in the post-Revolutionary Communist Russia. Ayn Rand provides us with her insight and experience of the communist experiment, her Zeitgeist, the conversations, the comments, the collective thinking in force, the utter annihilation of the individual by the thinking of the majority.
Later she managed to flee to the United States where she lived until the end of her days. She released a book before that called “The Spring” where she explained a little of her philosophical theory but apparently, the public and the critic did not understand very well and the book was not well received. Ayn Rand spent more than 20 years writing “The Atlas Revolt”.
I’m not going to spoil it but to make it clear, her whole theory that she wanted to talk about “The Spring” and the Atlas Revolt itself, in order not to be misunderstood or to leave room for misinterpretation, she used an indirect, very direct speech even, she made a chapter of over 60 pages is the speech John Galt where he talks directly to the whole country all she wanted to talk to all mankind and forever, is a true guide and slap in the face, of course Reading 64 pages of a speech can become tiring, I had to interrupt the reading a few times to rest and come back another day.
But the words John Galt are really strong and I can remember him almost every day living my day to day at work and at home, how influential this force that she has passed me and how it has impacted so far in forming my thinking, is totally impressive.
According to what she wrote and explained, historians say that she created a new philosophical school that was called “positivism” and (do not confuse with the Brazilian positivism of the Empire era – has nothing to do). You can then research the hundreds of thousands of articles on Ayn Rand’s Positivism where scholars unroll the core philosophy in several hundred thousand pieces, but the main thing is untouched.
Ayn Rand was finally able to be heard and understood after tens of years formulating her theory and writing it, then came the fame, the money and the endless interviews she gave to radio and TV stations. And in that too she was strong, never carried away by a journalist or the audience, responding to everything with great mastery and intelligence and a relentless inner strength. This was a sensational and worthy woman to be studied and listened to.
The way she sees the weakness of the individual, selfishness disguised as compassion, the transvestite exploration of goodness and strength within the individual producer, worker, and entrepreneur who really touches the world in spite of governments and thousands of public or private parasites And yet the corrupt and power-hungry of power is sensational.
You will realize that the theme is so prevalent that in a simple TV, radio or internet news you see the lessons that the book has given you right there in front of you, repeating itself in an endless cycle, and in addition, the best of all is That you will know how to deal with all this in a spectacular and correct way and you will come out strengthened and I would say even more respected and feared by the people who surround you. They are one of the best 1500 pages of reading I have had in life and that I will take forever with me.
Here is the honest hint of a great work of universal literature to read or to give someone. They are three volumes in the paper, almost 1500 pages that are worth very much.
